SOOP (formerly AfreecaTV)

숲 / 수프

SOOP is one of South Korea's largest livestreaming platforms and the home of much of the country's BJ culture. The service was known as AfreecaTV for nearly two decades before the operating company rebranded the platform to SOOP in 2024, also launching an international service. Despite the new name, longtime viewers still refer to it as AfreecaTV, and the two names point to the same platform.

How do donations work on SOOP?

The platform's signature virtual gift is the star balloon (별풍선). Viewers buy star balloons and send them to a BJ during a broadcast; the BJ later converts them to revenue. Star balloons drive much of a BJ's income and fuel on-stream events such as goal-based pledges.

What is SOOP known for?

SOOP hosts a wide range of content — gaming, talk, sports, and one of its most popular categories, dance. Many Korean dance BJs and crews broadcast here, which is why the platform appears so often across this directory.
