Mukbang (먹방) is a Korean word combining "eating" (먹는) and "broadcast" (방송) — a livestream in which the host eats food, often in large amounts, while talking with the audience. The format began on AfreecaTV and Korean streaming in the early 2010s and has since spread worldwide on YouTube and other platforms.
Why is mukbang popular?
Mukbang combines comfort viewing, ASMR-like eating sounds, and live interaction. For BJs it is an easy, relatable format to chat with fans, and many dance BJs run occasional mukbang or talk streams alongside their dance content.
